Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo says that he will not miss the team's training camp despite undergoing surgery to remove a back cyst.

Tony Romo has said that surgery to remove a cyst from his back will not prevent him taking part in the Dallas Cowboys' training camp next month.

The quarterback has revealed that he underwent the operation in April, and will miss team activities while he recovers.

The 33-year-old told the Dallas Morning News: "If this was the regular season and I had to play next week, I could. This is just about being smart. That's why I did it now.

"This will have no effect on training camp. No way will it have an impact. And I still think there's a good chance I'm on the field for minicamp.

"It was just kind of like, 'What is this? Let's go take care of this,' there was no 'Woah, that's the biggest thing I've ever seen.' It was just a little cyst, so we just took it out and they said 'OK, you're good'."

Romo discovered the cyst after signing a $108m (£71.6m) contract extension with the Cowboys.
