Agent: 'Cleveland Browns want Brian Hoyer back for 2015 season'

The Cleveland Browns want quarterback Brian Hoyer at the club next season despite his struggles at the end of the 2014 campaign, according to the player's agent.

The agent of Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer has revealed that the club are interested in bringing the veteran back for the 2015 season.

Hoyer will be out of contract when the league season officially ends in March, but the club are said to be keen for the quarterback to remain with them, despite his struggles at the back end of the campaign and the drafting of Johnny Manziel last year.

"We never got to the numbers part," Joe Linta told the Akron Beacon Journal. "They called and said they were interested in bringing him back.

"I think the only thing that would make him not (want to) come back is if they said Manziel or whoever we take in the draft or whoever we sign in free agency is going to be the starter and you will only be the backup. I think that would probably drive him away a little bit.

"If [head coach Mike] Pettine said, 'Hey, it's going to be an open competition again between you and Johnny,' great, let's go. ... (Hoyer) wants to play. The kid wants to have an opportunity to compete and play."

The 29-year-old threw for 3,326 yards along with 12 touchdowns to 13 interceptions in the 2014 season.
