Manziel fined by NFL for finger gesture

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel has been fined $12,000 (£7,200) by the NFL for making a hand gesture towards the Washington Redskins sideline during his side's pre-season defeat.

The 21-year-old struggled during the Browns' loss to the Redskins as he completed just seven of his 16 passes and was sacked three times at FedEx Field.

Manziel's frustration appeared to boil over when he raised his middle finger towards the Redskins bench following a failed drive, which was caught on camera, and as a result he has been heavily fined by the NFL.

Brian Hoyer has been named as Cleveland's starting quarterback for the 2014 season ahead of Manziel.
