Lewis: 'We have full belief in Dalton'

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is adamant that the club have no plans to add a quarterback to their roster to provide competition for Andy Dalton.

The Bengals handed Dalton a lucrative contract extension last year, but the 27-year-old struggled for consistency in the 2014 campaign, which ended in a fourth straight loss in the first round of the playoffs for the AFC West outfit.

Despite their problems in the post-season, Lewis has insisted that Dalton has the full backing of the club, and will not add another quarterback to the roster to compete for the starting position.

Lewis told reporters: "What team in the NFL has had a quarterback competition and it's worked? We feel Andy Dalton's our quarterback, yes we do.

"Well, we just signed Andy long-term. So we committed ourselves to Andy long-term, and we feel really good about him."

Dalton has thrown for 14,758 yards and 99 touchdowns to 66 interceptions in his four seasons in the NFL.
