Palmer ruled out for the season

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians has revealed that quarterback Carson Palmer has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 34-year-old sustained a torn ACL in the fourth quarter of his side's win over the St Louis Rams as he fell awkwardly on the turf while attempting to evade safety Mark Barron.

It is the second time Palmer has suffered the injury, as he also tore his ACL while playing for the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2005 season.

"He knows what he's in for, the long, tedious process of rehab," Arians told reporters. "It's just a shame that it happened now, with this team."

Palmer will be replaced as the club's starting quarterback by Drew Stanton for the remainder of the campaign, as the 34-year-old will be placed on season-ending injured reserve.
