Richard Gasquet ends run of Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon

Richard Gasquet reaches the Wimbledon quarter-finals with a four-set victory over Nick Kyrgios.

Richard Gasquet has ended the Wimbledon run of Nick Kyrgios by prevailing from their fourth-round encounter in four sets.

The Frenchman wasted two match points during the third set, but he made no mistake in the fourth as he ran out a 7-5 6-1 6-7 7-6 winner.

Both men had registered impressive wins in the third round against Milos Raonic and Grigor Dimitrov respectively, but it was Kyrgios who began the match on the front foot by breaking his opponent in the opening game of the contest.

However, Gasquet had got back level after six games, before breaking the Kyrgios serve for a second time to move into a one-set advantage.

Gasquet soon moved a break ahead at the start of the second, and his performance was all the more impressive after Kyrgios effectively gave up three successive points during an ongoing war of words with the umpire.

The set was over when Gasquet sealed the second break, and in the space of an hour, he had opened up a two-set lead.

However, Kyrgios found a positive response as he raced into a 3-0 lead in the third before Gasquet found his range again to get back to 3-3.

Gasquet saved two set points to move into a tie-break before the Frenchman created two match points to move to the brink of sealing victory.

Kyrgios stormed back though, taking four of the next five points to extend the match, much to the delight of the crowd on Court Two.

The Australian had the momentum, but after the fourth set went into another tie-break, it was Gasquet who held his nerve to secure a place in the last eight.
