Roger Federer into 50th Grand Slam QF by beating Grigor Dimitrov at Wimbledon

Roger Federer reaches his 50th Grand Slam quarter-final with a straight-sets win over Grigor Dimitrov at Wimbledon.

Roger Federer's hopes of winning an eighth Wimbledon title remain intact after he sealed a quarter-final place with a straight-sets win over Grigor Dimitrov.

The 35-year-old, who has now reached the final eight in a Grand Slam 50 times, took one hour and 40 minutes to oust the world number 11 with a 6-4 6-2 6-4 triumph.

Federer showed early intent by creating a break point in Dimitrov's opening service game, but the Bulgarian managed to hold.

The Wimbledon fan favourite bided his time before breaking his opponent to give himself the opportunity to serve for the set, which he did comfortably.

Federer needed just 27 minutes to win the second set as he nabbed a double break before taking a 3-2 lead in the third, leaving Dimitrov with a mountain to climb.

The 26-year-old tried to cause an upset by breaking back, but Federer responded instantly to swing the contest to his advantage once again before sealing it on his second match point.
