Dan Evans hails 'best win of career' after reaching US Open third round

Dan Evans airs his delight after becoming the third British male to make it into the third round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows.

Dan Evans has claimed that victory over rising star Alexander Zverev at the US Open will go down as the greatest win of his career to date.

The 26-year-old earned a 6-4 6-4 5-7 6-2 triumph at Flushing Meadows in the early hours of Friday to join fellow Brits Andy Murray and Kyle Edmund in round three.

It was just Evans's third win over an opponent ranked in the world's top 30, setting up a meeting with two-time Grand Slam champion Stanislas Wawrinka later today in New York.

"It was probably the best win of my career," Evans is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "The situation and circumstances, late at night, difficult mentally. To come back in the fourth and get on top was good."

Not since 1968 has Britain had three men in the third round of the Grand Slam event.
