Grigor Dimitrov too strong for Alexandr Dolgopolov

Grigor Dimitrov is through to the Rogers Cup second round after grinding out a win against Alexandr Dolgopolov.

Grigor Dimitrov has recorded a straight-sets victory over Alexandr Dolgopolov to book his place in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

After losing at the third-round stage at Wimbledon, Dimitrov parted ways with coach Roger Rasheed but the Bulgarian showed some encouraging signs in a morale-boosting performance against Dolgopolov.

The opening set saw qualifier Dolgopolov look the most likely to break serve, but after the Ukrainian squandered six opportunities, Dimitrov struck at the end of the set to open up a lead.

Dolgopolov secured the early break in the second but when serving to take the match into a decider, he allowed Dimitrov to get back on level terms before the 14th seed broke for a second successive game to secure his spot in the last 32.
