Edmund withdraws through injury against Ferrer

Kyle Edmund has been forced to withdraw from the Erste Bank Open in Vienna through injury.

The British number two had been hoping to build on his semi-final appearance in Antwerp last week but he only lasted five games against David Ferrer before pulling out of the contest through injury.

Edmund had dropped serve during the opening game of the match and although he held to love in the fifth game to get back to 2-3, he decided to shake hands with the experienced Spaniard who he beat in the last 16 at the European Open on Thursday.

The 21-year-old is due to feature in the qualifying rounds of the Paris Masters but he may decide to end his season a week earlier than planned and focus his attentions on 2017.
