Fall leads to Kyle Edmund exit at Open de Nice

Kyle Edmund has emerged as a major doubt for Roland Garros after being forced to withdraw from his match with Alexander Zverev at the Open de Nice tournament in France.

The British number three had been hoping to continue his preparation for the second Grand Slam of the year against hot prospect Zverev and all had been going to plan after taking the opening set 7-5.

However, at 4-3 up in the second set, the 21-year-old was in visible distress after suffering an awkward fall at the back of the court and he had to be helped back to his chair as he struggled to put any weight on his ankle.

Edmund continued before losing the set 7-5, but he soon made the decision to bring a halt to the contest to give himself the best possible chance of recovering in time for the French Open, which gets underway on Sunday.
