Novak Djokovic wins maiden French Open with victory over Andy Murray

Novak Djokovic wins his maiden French Open with a 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-4 victory over Andy Murray in Sunday's final, a feat that sees him hold all four Grand Slams at the same time.

Novak Djokovic has defeated Andy Murray 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-4 to clinch his maiden French Open title and seal the notable achievement of holding all four Grand Slams at the same time.

The world number one recovered from a shaky start in Sunday's Roland Garros final, in which he fell a set down against a seemingly rampant Murray, to impose his pace on Court Philippe Chatrier and claim his 12th Grand Slam crown.

British number one Murray began brightly and struck the right balance between defense and attack to claim a convincing first set, but from then on it was all Djokovic, who overwhelmed his opponent to avoid becoming the first man to lose his first four French Open finals.

Despite a late rally from Murray, who broke the Serb's serve at 5-2 down, it proved too little too late in the face of a determined, focused and destructive Djokovic, who collapsed to the ground following his monumental win.

Djokovic is only the third man in history to complete a non-calendar year Grand Slam - Rod Laver was the last in 1969, with Don Budge also achieving the feat.

In addition, the 29-year-old has become just the eighth man - and second-oldest - in history to complete the career Grand Slam after Andre Agassi, Budge, Roy Emerson, Roger Federer, Rod Laver, Rafael Nadal and Fred Perry.
