David Ferrer safely into French Open fourth round with win over Feliciano Lopez

David Ferrer makes it through to the fourth round of the French Open with a straight-sets win over Feliciano Lopez.

David Ferrer comfortably sealed a place in the fourth round of the French Open, despite dealing with a rain disruption in his match against Feliciano Lopez on Saturday.

The Spaniard overcame his compatriot in a 6-4 7-6(6) 6-1 victory on the clay court in Paris after play was interrupted after the second set.

Lopez showed his intent in the first half by breaking back instantly after losing serve, but it failed to trouble Ferrer as he broke again to take the lead.

The 2013 finalist had a wobble at the start of the second set as he dropped serve, but he responded nine games later to take the match into a tie-break, which the 34-year-old edged 8-6.

After returning to court following a weather disruption, Ferrer swept through the third set in 39 minutes, leaving Lopez with just one game on the board.
