Andy Murray reveals that he has been suffering with a "sharp pain" in his right quad, which he received treatment to in his Davis Cup meeting with Guido Pella on Sunday.

Andy Murray has revealed that he intends to spend time recovering after seeing Great Britain's hopes of retaining their Davis Cup crown come to an end this weekend.

The 29-year-old has had a gruelling year so far, having won a second Wimbledon and Olympic title and gone all the way in both the Australian and French Open.

Murray suffered an injury scare in the third set of his victory over Guido Pella when battling to a 6-3 6-2 6-3 victory, levelling the Davis Cup semi-final tie with Argentina at 2-2 ahead of this evening's final rubber between Dan Evans and Leonardo Mayer.

Evans would go on to lose the match in four sets as the defending champions crashed out at the semi-final stage, and Murray now intends to make the most of his time off.

"I have a lot of sharp pain in my right quad," he told BBC Sport. "I have to go and see what's up and get some treatment. I need a break. I have played so much tennis, my body needs some rest."

Murray is ranked at number two in the world, behind only Novak Djokovic in the current standings.
