Uncapped trio named in Australia's World Cup squad

Three uncapped players have been named in Australia's squad for this year's Rugby League World Cup.

Boyd Cordner, Josh Papalii and Andrew Fifita are all included in the 24-man party, while Justin Hodges, Kurt Gidley and Anthony Watmough miss out through injury.

Australia have won the World Cup a record nine times. However, after winning six in a row, they lost their title five years ago when New Zealand beat them 34-20 in Brisbane.

This year's tournament kicks off on October 26 when Australia take on England at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Australia squad in full: Smith (captain), Gallen, Bird, Boyd, Cherry-Evans, Cordner, Cronk, Farah, Fifita, Hayne, Inglis, Jennings, Lewis, B Morris, J Morris, Myles, Papalii, Parker, Scott, Slater, Tamou, Tate, Thaiday, Thurston.
