Stoke City fan suffers heart attack after Philippe Coutinho strike

A Stoke City supporter is reportedly recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack shortly after Philippe Coutinho scored the winning goal for Liverpool.

A Stoke City supporter reportedly suffered a heart attack at the Britannia Stadium just moments after Philippe Coutinho scored the winning goal for Liverpool in Sunday's Premier League opener.

Paramedics rushed to the unnamed fan's aid when they collapsed shortly after Coutinho's 86th-minute strike on Sunday.

According to The Mirror, the fan was successfully resuscitated in the Q-Railing Stand and is now recovering in hospital.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service is quoted as saying: "We had a call just before 5.50pm to a male cardiac arrest. A community defibrillator was used at the stadium.

"Two ambulances were sent out and he was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. It was a successful resuscitation."

A number of Stoke players, including Charlie Adam, sent their well-wishes to the supporter on Twitter.
