Sky Sports wins rights to show Floyd Mayweather Jr, Conor McGregor

Sky Sports Box Office will screen the highly-anticipated showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor on August 26.

Sky Sports has announced that it will screen the highly-anticipated showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor.

On Saturday, August 26, the two megastars are expected to set new pay-per-view records after agreeing to meet in a boxing ring in Las Vegas.

While multi-weight world champion Mayweather is looking to record his 50th straight win, Irishman McGregor is making the switch from UFC to try to become the first man to defeat the American.

It has been revealed that the fight will cost viewers £19.95, which is nearly five times less than what the Stateside audience will have to shell out on the final weekend in August.

Adam Smith, head of boxing for Sky Sports, said: "This is surely one of the most anticipated and intriguing contests we've ever seen on Sky Sports Box Office.

"Can the charismatic Conor McGregor, so formidable in the octagon, make the switch to the ring and create history? What will it mean for Mayweather's legacy – one of the greatest fighters of all time but coming out of retirement and facing a man at the very top of his game? It's set to be a huge night in Las Vegas – one you won't want to miss."

The bout is scheduled to take place at 154lbs.
