Four killed in stampede at football match in Honduras

Four football supporters have died and many more left injured after a stampede at a local match in Honduras.

The incident took place during the game between Motagua and Honduras Progreso in Honduran capital Tegucigalpa.

A spokesman for University Teaching Hospital confirmed that around 25 people are still being treated, while an unborn fetus was also among the casualties.

Initial reports suggested that Motagua had sold too many tickets for the match, but the club denied these claims and blamed it on fake tickets being offloaded.

The match still went ahead, with Progreso losing 7-1 on aggregate in the title playoff fixture in front of 35,000 spectators.
