Manchester City player banned for drink-driving

Manchester City midfielder Bersant Celina receives a 12-month driving ban after pleading guilty to being drunk behind the wheel.

Manchester City midfielder Bersant Celina has been banned from driving after being caught driving at one-and-a-half times the legal alcohol limit earlier this month.

Police found the 19-year-old in his Mercedes following a tip-off from his girlfriend, who had been arguing with the player during a night out at a VIP club in the city.

The Kosovo international, who moved to City in 2012, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and was given a 12-month ban and ordered to pay a £2,625 fine and a further £255 in court costs.

Celina has made just one senior league appearance for the Citizens to date, coming on as a substitute in their 3-1 home defeat to Leicester City in February, albeit assisting Sergio Aguero for their only goal.

New City boss Pep Guardiola has since sent Celina out on loan to Eredivisie side FC Twente.
