Mario Balotelli caught up in anti-Semitism storm

Mario Balotelli faces a five-game ban from the FA if he is charged with anti-Semitism following a risque post on social media.

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli is expected to be the subject of an investigation by the Football Association after sharing a perceived anti-Semitic post on social media.

The Italian posted a picture of Nintendo character Mario on his Instagram account, which read: "Don't be racist — be like Mario. He's an Italian plumber created by Japanese people who speaks English and looks like a Mexican."

The phrase "jumps like a black man and grabs coins like a jew" appeared on the bottom of the image, leading to a backlash of criticism for the 24-year-old.

According to the Daily Mail, the former Manchester City forward could face up to a five-match ban if he is charged by the FA.

Balotelli, who is of Ghanaian descent, later took to Twitter to describe the incident as an "unlucky moment" and claimed that his mother is Jewish.

Balotelli is currently sidelined with a groin injury and will miss Tuesday's visit to Leicester City.
