Leicester City's Danny Simpson placed under curfew after assaulting ex-girlfriend

Leicester City defender Danny Simpson is placed under a curfew as punishment for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Ward.

Leicester City defender Danny Simpson has been placed under curfew after being convicted of strangling his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Ward.

The restriction means that Simpson will miss Leicester's Premier League trophy parade on Monday.

District Judge Alexandra Simmonds revoked a sentence of community service due to press intrusion, but the footballer has been ordered to stay indoors at his home in Salford between 10pm and 6am for the next 21 days.

Simpson's lawyer Gary Ryan asked Manchester Magistrates Court if Simpson could pay a fine instead, but the judge rejected the suggestion, stating that it would be "no punishment" due to the footballer's wealth, according to BBC News.

Simpson, who was convicted last May, is required to wear an electronic tag.
