UEFA rules preventing Scottish Cup replays from being televised

UEFA prevents the Scottish Cup replays from being shown on TV as they clash with Champions League action.

UEFA rules are preventing Scottish Cup replays from being televised due to the fixtures being scheduled at the same time as Champions League games.

Hibernian and Hearts are due to go head to head on Tuesday, February 16, while Kilmarnock and Rangers are also scheduled to play after the initial match-ups ended in draws.

Sky Sports and the BBC have the rights to show a game each, but on the same night Benfica face Zenit St Petersburg and Chelsea travel to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

UEFA rules state that no other football competition can be aired live on TV when Europe's elite competition is being played.

According to the Daily Record, should neither Scottish Cup fixture be screened, then the clubs involved could lose around £80,000 each.

Broadcasters and the Scottish Football Association are working together to find a way to work around the rule.
