Jason Day four clear after difficult day three of Players Championship

World number one Jason Day overcomes difficult conditions to go four shots clear after the third round of the Players Championship.

Jason Day managed to keep his losses to just one shot in a difficult third round of the Players Championship, extending his lead to four shots ahead of the final day in Florida.

The Australian had to complete his second round early on Saturday after lightning delayed Friday's play and he finished at 15-under-par after 36 holes, breaking the halfway scoring record of the tournament.

The world number one then struggled early on in his third round after the TPC Sawgrass greens quickened significantly.

Day four-putted the sixth and then double-bogeyed the eighth to see his lead cut to a single shot, but he responded by playing his last 10 holes in three-under for a one-over 73.

Four shots is Day's advantage over a three-way tie for third between Hideki Matsuyama, Alex Cejka and Ken Duke.
