American golfer Patrick Reed withdraws from two European Tour events

American Ryder Cup star Patrick Reed pulls out of both the BMW PGA Championship and the Irish Open on the European Tour.

America's Patrick Reed has pulled out of two upcoming European Tour tournaments due to "family reasons".

Unlike many of his compatriots, Reed wants to play on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour, but he won't be participating in the European Tour's flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship, this week or the Irish Open next week.

In a statement, Reed said that he wouldn't be able to travel abroad at this time, so he has entered the Crowne Plaza Invitational in Dallas this week instead.

"I am really looking forward to playing on the European Tour this year which makes me even more disappointed to withdraw from Wentworth and the Irish Open," Reed, 24, said.

"We will not be able to travel overseas at this time. My sincere apologies go to the organisers of both events, and to the fans. Thank you all for your support."

Reed, who has won four tournaments as a professional, is 15th in the golf world rankings.
