Rory McIlroy rallies to make Masters cut

Rory McIlroy produces a late run of birdies to card a second-round 72 and make the cut at The Masters.

A late flurry of birdies has helped Rory McIlroy to survive the cut at The Masters in Augusta following a level-par round of 72.

The world number one's push to win a first green jacket appeared to have ended as he reached the turn in 40, after three bogeys and a double-bogey six at the ninth.

McIlroy managed to find a birdie at 10 before sinking an eagle at 13, but a further dropped shot left the Northern Irishman in danger of missing the cut.

However, the defending Open and US PGA champion birdied the 15th before chipping in at 17 and finishing with a three at 18 to reach one-under-par heading into the weekend.

Ian Poulter will also play the final two rounds at Augusta after the Ryder Cup star followed his opening-round 73 with a 72, standing at one-over for the tournament.
