Rory McIlroy backs Jordan Spieth to add more majors to Masters triumph

Rory McIlroy believes that Jordan Spieth will win "many more" majors in the future after the 21-year-old grabbed his first at The Masters on Sunday.

World number one Rory McIlroy has predicted that Jordan Spieth's win at The Masters will be the first major triumph of many in the future for the American.

The 21-year-old took the green jacket by four shots ahead of Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose on Sunday.

On his way to victory, Spieth equalled the 72-hole record of 18-under set by Tiger Woods in 1997 and beat Mickelson's previous best of 25 birdies by hitting a total of 28 at Augusta national.

"Jordan obviously started off fantastically well and has just kept his foot down," McIlroy told reporters. "It's awfully impressive. I've been fortunate enough to be in a similar position, winning my first major, and having a nice comfortable walk up the 18th.

"It's nice to get your major tally up and running at quite an early stage of your career and it's great to see, great for the game, and I'm sure he'll win many more."

Spieth, who has moved to two in the world rankings, is the second youngest champion behind Woods to ever win the Masters.
