Nico Rosberg first, Lewis Hamilton last in P3 as red flag plagues session

Nico Rosberg finishes first and Lewis Hamilton last as the red flag plagued the third, and last, practice session ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton finished slowest in the third practice session ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix after Mercedes had little time to find him a window on the super-soft tyres, while teammate Nico Rosberg was fastest in Montreal.

It was dry and sunny in Montreal compared to yesterday's wet second session, meaning most teams were using the harder of the two tyres available, with the opportunity to use the entire practice hour to get used to the track.

Sebastian Vettel and Rosberg set the pace early on at the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit, while Mercedes waited for the track to heat up before heading out for some runs.

The red flag came out with 22 minutes to go after Sauber rookie Felipe Nasr hit the wall on a straight after trying to warm up his tyres.

The session resumed with 12 minutes remaining with most teams switching to the super-soft tyre.

Lotus looked quick and surprised many with their laps, while McLaren had to change Fernando Alonso's internal combustion engine during practice leaving him with 11 minutes to clock a time.

The red flag came out again with six minutes to go as Jenson Button's car came to a halt and a tow truck was needed to remove it, meaning that practice ended early as the chequered flag came out with no time left for cars to get back onto the track.

Rosberg finished practice at the top of the leaderboard, with Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean coming in second and third respectively.
