Tomkins hopes to extend West Ham stay

James Tomkins has said that he hopes to earn a contract extension with West Ham United so that he can play at the Olympic Stadium.

The 23-year-old's current deal with the Hammers is due to expire just before the club's move to Stratford in 2016.

The defender told The Express: "My contract expires just before it happens but hopefully I will still be around because, just like all the fans, I am looking forward to that occasion.

"It seems so far away right now but it will come soon. It should be a brilliant moment. This has been my club since I was eight. It's hard to see me ever being anywhere else because I have been here so long, and my family are as excited as I am."

West Ham were confirmed as the new tenants for the facility earlier this week.
