Report: Betway apologise to West Ham United for negative Michail Antonio tweet

Betway 'apologise for Michail Antonio tweet'

West Ham United player Michail Antonio has reportedly received an apology after Betway, the club's official shirt sponsors, criticised him on social media.

The 25-year-old gave away a penalty as the Hammers opened their 2016-17 Premier League campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Monday night.

Following his error last night, Betway tweeted from their official Twitter account: "Antonio has been an accident waiting to happen in defence... West Ham fans will hope that's the end of the experiment."

Betway have reportedly told Sky Sports News that their tweet was inappropriate in light of the company's relationship with West Ham and that the two parties held a conference call on Tuesday to discuss the incident.

Antonio, whose usual position is as a right-winger, has been deployed as a right-back by manager Slaven Bilic since the end of last season.
