Watford academy midfielder Rhyle Ovenden signs professional contract

Ovenden pens Watford professional deal

Watford academy product Rhyle Ovenden has signed his first professional contract at Vicarage Road.

The 17-year-old, who helped the Hornets' Under-18 side win the Professional Development League Two South title last season, puts pen to paper on a one-year deal and will go into the Under-21 setup.

Ovenden told the official Watford website: "I'm delighted. It's a good opportunity, it's a good club, and I'm looking forward to next season now.

"I'm looking ahead to making the step-up to the Under-21s, playing at a higher level and I'm really excited.

"I want to play as many minutes as I can, and hopefully get opportunities to impress the first-team staff."

Eastbourne-born Ovenden joined the Golden Boys back in November, before going on to play an integral role in midfield for Dave Horseman's academy side.
