Javier Saviola links up with Andorran club Ordino

Former Barcelona and Real Madrid striker Javier Saviola joins Andorran side Ordino in a player-coaching role.

Former Barcelona and Real Madrid striker Javier Saviola has joined Andorran side Ordino in a bid to return to fitness following a disappointing spell with River Plate.

Saviola, 34, had been without a club since his River Plate contract was cancelled in January, but it is understood that he has linked up with Ordino in a player-coaching role.

The former Argentina international is expected to work with Ordino's youth teams as an assistant coach with a view to signing a short-term contract for the 2016-17 campaign.

"This is all new to me, I will try to pass on my experience as a player to the youngsters," Saviola told Mundo Deportivo.

The forward, who scored 49 league goals in 123 appearances for Barcelona between 2001 and 2007, has also previously represented Benfica, Malaga, Olympiacos and Verona during a well-travelled career.
