Sigurdsson signs new Swansea deal

Gylfi Sigurdsson has signed a new four-year deal with Swansea City, ending speculation that he could leave the Welsh side this summer.

The 26-year-old midfielder had been linked with a £25m switch to Everton but has instead opted to put pen to paper on fresh terms keeping him at the Liberty Stadium until 2020.

The Iceland international had caught the eye of a number of clubs after impressing at Euro 2016 as a key member of the side that reached the quarter-finals of the tournament.

As part of the new deal, Sigurdsson, who joined the Swans from Tottenham Hotspur in 2014, is thought to have been handed a boost to his current weekly wage of £55,000.

Sigurdsson was Swansea's second top scorer last season, contributing 11 goals in 36 appearances.
