Dick Advocaat: Sunderland "gave the game away in two minutes"

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat bemoans the way in which his side gifted a win to Manchester United in the space of two minutes of play in the 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat has bemoaned the way that his side gifted the game to Manchester United in the space of two minutes of play after his side lost 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Memphis Depay struck in first-half injury time before Wayne Rooney doubled the lead inside the first minute of the second period as Sunderland's winless start to the Premier League season was extended to seven matches.

Advocaat praised his side's organisation during the first half, but was disappointed with the manner in which they lost the game.

"The first half we did well, organisation-wise, but the problem was that they scored one minute before half time and one minute after half time," he told reporters. "United were the better side but they didn't create a lot of chances."

"It is a shame that we gave that goal away in the first half because it made things different in the second half. The first goal was a long ball and Patrick van Aanholt is watching his own man, instead of closing down."

"United could not score at a better moment. Again, we were well-organised against a good side, but we gave the game away in two minutes and we cannot keep saying after each game to take the good things out of it."

Sunderland host high-flying West Ham United in their next Premier League match at the Stadium of Light.
