Midfielder Harry Winks says that Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on their first trophy since 2008.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is confident that his club are closing in on their first trophy since 2008.

Spurs again secured a top-four finish in last season's Premier League table, while the capital outfit also reached the final of the Champions League.

The side have not won a major trophy since lifting the 2008 League Cup, however, and there will be pressure on head coach Mauricio Pochettino to deliver following the big-money arrival of Tanguy Ndombele.

Winks has said that "there is a bigger picture at Tottenham" than simply winning silverware, but the England international is confident that a trophy will soon arrive.

"As long as we keep believing in what we have to do... I'm sure [trophies] are round the corner," BBC Sport quotes Winks as saying.

"Everybody is ambitious in the squad. Of course there comes a time when players want to start winning trophies. But there is a bigger picture at Tottenham."

Spurs will kick off their preparations for the new campaign with a clash against Juventus this weekend, before also taking on Manchester United, Real Madrid and Inter Milan during pre-season.
