Jan Vertonghen facing four months on sidelines?

Tottenham Hotspur and Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen reportedly faces four months on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

Jan Vertonghen has reportedly been ruled out for four months after sustaining an ankle injury during a training session with Belgium.

The 29-year-old had been preparing to feature for his national team in their Euro 2016 quarter-final with Wales on Friday night, but according to reports in Belgium, he is out of the game in Lille.

If claims of ligament damage are confirmed, he faces missing the start of the new season with Tottenham Hotspur, with a late October return being anticipated should the fears of the Belgium medical department be proven correct.

With Thomas Vermaelen already absent through suspension, coach Marc Wilmots must reshuffle his defence ahead of their bid to reach the last four of the tournament.
