Fraser Forster declared fit for Arsenal clash despite injury scare

Claude Puel reveals that Fraser Forster "will be OK" for Saturday's trip to take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, while Ryan Bertrand could also feature.

Southampton manager Claude Puel has confirmed that Fraser Forster has recovered from the knock picked up on international duty and is now in line to start against Arsenal.

The England goalkeeper was denied the chance to challenge Joe Hart for a starting spot in the Three Lions' opening World Cup qualifier after withdrawing from the squad.

Forster, backed by many to get the nod over Hart in the build-up to the clash in Trnava, was sent back to St Mary's to undergo checks on his damaged arm, but Puel now expects to have his first-choice stopper back between the sticks at the Emirates Stadium.

"I think it's positive for Fraser and he looks ready to play," he told the club's official website. "He will be OK for Saturday, no problem, so that's positive.

"It was also interesting to see Alex McCarthy called up to the England team. It's a good thing to have two goalkeepers with them. I think we have no problems with injuries for all of the international players.

"We will see how they are looking closer to the game. It's important to keep all of the players fit and physically ready for the next game. I'm happy to see all of my international players back and in good health."

Puel also revealed that Ryan Bertrand is in contention for his first appearance of the season, as Southampton aim to pull off an upset in North London on Saturday afternoon.
