Sheffield United complete the £18m signing of England Under-21s international striker Cameron Archer from Aston Villa.

Sheffield United have completed the signing of striker Cameron Archer from Aston Villa.

The 21-year-old joins the Blades for an undisclosed fee, thought to be worth around £18m, and has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Bramall Lane.

All parties are understood to have agreed the move earlier this week, but a delay in finalising the transfer means that Archer will not be available to make his debut in this afternoon's Premier League clash with champions Manchester City.

However, the forward, who will wear the number 10 shirt, could feature for the first time during the EFL Cup second round match against Lincoln City on Wednesday.

"Everyone is happy if they are playing football regularly. That's something I want to do now," Archer told the club's official website.

"I think it was important to come here and look for Premier League football, that was key for me because I want to make that next step now and challenge myself. Hopefully I can do that here.

"Sheffield United have a long history of developing players in terms of playing and hopefully making better people as well."

Manager Paul Heckingbottom added: "There was a great opportunity for us to sign a young, exciting forward and one who showed a desire to join us. Cameron brings us pace, agility and a goalscoring record – we are looking forward to working with him."

Archer becomes Sheffield United's eighth signing of the summer, following Gus Hamer, Vini Souza, Auston Trusty, Benie Traore, Anis Slimane, Tom Davies and Yasser Larouci through the door at Bramall Lane.

The England Under-21s international spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he scored 11 goals in 20 Championship appearances, including a brace against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The move sees Archer end a 13-year association with Villa, having joined as an eight-year-old before going on to score four times in 14 senior outings for the club.
