Robbie Keane caps off Republic of Ireland career with goal against Oman

Robbie Keane ends his Republic of Ireland career with a well-taken goal in a 4-0 thrashing of Oman in Wednesday night's international friendly at the Aviva Stadium.

Robbie Keane has capped off his Republic of Ireland career with a goal as Martin O'Neill's charges thrashed Oman 4-0 in Wednesday night's international friendly at the Aviva Stadium.

The 36-year-old had decided to call time on his international service last Thursday, adding that he had "dreaded this day for a long time [but] it's the right time for me".

Keane led the line and also captained his nation as they made light work of their opponents, opening the scoring just seven minutes in through Robbie Brady's curling free kick around the wall and into the net.

The Irish charges sought to give their talismanic striker the perfect send-off by sending chance after chance his way and, on the half-hour mark, the Los Angeles Galaxy man grabbed his final Ireland goal, flicking the ball over a defender and rifling home on the volley.

Oman were outclassed by the hosts, who added a third goal before the break through a Jonathan Walters header, and they went on to make it four after the restart as the Stoke City man rounded the goalkeeper and calmly slotted into an empty net.

The game ultimately petered out as the Irish claimed an easy win ahead of their opening World Cup qualifier against Serbia, which takes place on Monday.
