Martin O'Neill unhappy with "incredible" Euro 2016 scheduling

Martin O'Neill blasts the decision to make Republic of Ireland play just four days after a gruelling match against Italy, while opponents France had a full week's rest.

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill has criticised Euro 2016 organisers for their supposed favourable treatment of tournament hosts France.

Les Bleus had three extra days' rest compared to their opponents, which proved useful in the end as they battled to a 2-1 comeback win in Lyon on Sunday.

O'Neill already made the point pre-match, but was keen to highlight once more following his side's defeat that they were hard done by when it came to arranging the last-16 fixtures.

Speaking to reporters, he said: "It will sound like an excuse and it's not meant to be, but it is incredible. It really is incredible.

"We knew at the start of the tournament that if we took our place in the last 16, the chances are there was going to be a big differential between us and some of the sides that we might play.

"It looked as if it was geared from France to win their group. Well done to them but three days is far too much."

France, who had an Antoine Griezmann double to thank for sealing their quarter-final place, will now face either England or Iceland next Sunday.
