Republic of Ireland's Robbie Brady ready for left-back role

Brady ready for left-back role

Robbie Brady has insisted that he would be comfortable playing at left-back if asked to fill in for the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2016 qualifier against Poland.

The Hull City winger may be called upon to deputise for Stephen Ward, who is still recovering from a broken foot, in Sunday's Group D clash at the Aviva Stadium.

Brady has scored three goals in 11 international caps, but has become "accustomed" to a deeper role at club level in recent times.

The 23-year-old told reporters: "Over the last couple of years, I have been a bit more accustomed to the role. I have played there quite a bit, so if he calls upon me on Sunday and needs me to play left-back, I'll play left-back and I'll give 110%, and hopefully we can come away with the result we need.

"It's definitely a change, but it's just concentration more than anything else. It's just work on the mind more than the body. You know how quick and how strong you are, it's just getting your positioning right.

"The more I play there, the more comfortable I feel. I have played there quite a bit and I will be ready to play there if that's where he needs me to play."

Ireland, who have eight points from their opening four qualifiers, will go level with group leaders Poland with victory.
