Burridge: 'Sociedad wanted Izwan Mahbud'

Singapore coach John Burridge has vowed to "try to find a way" to get LionsXII goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud into the European game.

Former goalkeeper Burridge, who represented a number of British clubs across an 18-year career, currently works with the Singapore national team.

The 63-year-old has claimed that David Moyes had been in contact about a move for Mahbud earlier in the season, but any possible deal broke down when the Scot was sacked by Real Sociedad.

Burridge, however, has vowed to do all he can to help the 25-year-old realise his potential in the game.

"I was in touch with Moyes but he got the sack, unfortunately," Today quotes Burridge as saying. "For me, Izwan is top draw and perfect for the Spanish League. I will try to find a way to get him into Europe.

"The only thing he's got to do is play at a bigger league and a better standard of football. When you put them in a bigger league, it's the league that teaches them."

Mahbud, who came through the academy at LionsXII, has represented the Singapore national team on 32 occasions.
