Real Madrid interested in Maarten Stekelenburg?

Real Madrid are reportedly lining up a shock move for Everton veteran Maarten Stekelenburg, as Los Blancos look to replace the outgoing Keylor Navas at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid are lining up a shock bid for Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, according to a report.

The 36-year-old was on the bench as the Toffees fell to a 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa on Friday night, but is widely expected to be third choice at Goodison Park this season behind Jordan Pickford and new recruit Jonas Lossl.

According to Football Insider, the Spanish giants are targeting the Dutchman as a potential replacement for Paris Saint-Germain bound Keylor Navas.

Stekelenburg has plenty of experience, having featured for his country in the 2010 World Cup final, but has only featured 26 times in his three years on Merseyside since switching from Fulham in 2016.

The former Ajax goalkeeper is one of a number of players who Madrid are rumoured to be interested in replacing the outgoing Navas with, alongside other targets including Chelsea man Willy Caballero, Pepe Reina and Diego Benaglio.

Thibaut Courtois will be Zidane's number one for the 2019-20 campaign, having started Los Blancos' opening La Liga match against Celta Vigo last weekend.
