Zinedine Zidane: 'Video technology must be clearer'

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane says that video technology in football "must be clearer" in order to work on a long-term basis.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has claimed that video technology in football "must be clearer" if it is to be introduced to the sport on a permanent basis.

The Video Assistant Referee system is currently being trialled at the 2016 Club World Cup and was in use during Real Madrid's 2-0 victory over Club America in the competition's second semi-final.

Cristiano Ronaldo's late strike for the Spanish giants was initially ruled offside following a call from the video referee, but the goal was eventually given after a period of confusion on the pitch.

Zidane is not entirely against the idea of "improving things" on the pitch, but the Frenchman has conceded that a lot of work needs to be done in order to make the technology usable on a long-term basis.

"We must adapt to what FIFA want to do. In Ronaldo's goal, there was bit of confusion. Things must be done clearer. But we must adapt. Improving things is good for football. But it must be clearer for everyone and it was not in this move," Zidane told reporters.

"It was a strange game, especially in rhythm. We achieved the goal just before the break and that suited us. We got the victory and we rest now for Sunday. We achieved what we came for and that is the final."

Real Madrid will take on Japanese side Kashima Antlers in the final of the Club World Cup on Sunday night.
