Evening all! Our Copa del Rey last-16 coverage continues this evening as Real Madrid welcome Osasuna for the first leg. The home side enter the match off the back of a 3-0 win over Celta Vigo in the league at the weekend, while Osasuna overcame Espanyol, with that result moving them two points clear of the relegation zone.

In terms of the recent meetings between the two sides, it does not make good reading for Osasuna. They have picked up two draws at home to Madrid in recent seasons, but have lost 4-2 and 7-1 on their last two trips to the Bernabeu. What’s more, Madrid have won eight of their nine league games in this stadium this season, scoring 30 times in the process.

Osasuna, meanwhile, overcame Malaga in the last round to set up the tie with Madrid. They have struggled in the league, however, with just five wins from their 18 matches leaving them in 15th position on 18 points, just two points outside the bottom three. They have also struggled on their travels this season with six defeats in their nine away league games.

TEAMS:

REAL MADRID: Casillas; Arbeloa, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Illarramendi, Modric; Ronaldo, Jese, Bale; Benzema

OSASUNA: Riesgo; Oier, Flano, Arribas, Damia; Cejudo, Silva, Loe; De las Cuevas, Riera, Torres

So there we have it. Jese Rodriguez starts for the home side this evening, while he is joined in attack by Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, but Angel di Maria is on the bench. Osasuna, meanwhile, have Oriol Riera leading their line. There are also starts for Miguel Flano and Alejandro Arribas. Right, the away side get the first period underway on this mild evening in the Spanish capital.

Not a full house inside the stadium this evening, but there is a strong atmosphere. I have a feeling that Osasuna could be on the end of a real hiding this evening. As expected, Madrid have taken control of the possession in the opening couple of moments with Modric already dictating possession from midfield, but he curls one just wide of the far post.

Bright football from Osasuna as they enjoy an extended period in possession of the ball, but the move breaks down when Cejudo runs into the challenge of Ramos. Benzema advances into the Osasuna box moments later, but the Frenchman is ruled offside.

CHANCE! The first opportunity of the evening comes to the home side as Jese dances into the Osasuna box before finding Benzema, but the Frenchman is denied by a fine Arribas challenge at the vital moment. Jese collects moments later, but is once more denied inside the box. Bright opening six minutes to this Copa del Rey encounter.

CHANCE! Plenty for Osasuna box Javi Garcia to be pleased about in the opening nine minutes with his side showing some nice touches in the Madrid half. Riera has possession down the right before finding Cejudo inside the box, but his low effort is pushed wide of the post by Iker Casillas.

Not too much to report from the home side in the last couple of moments with Osasuna closing the space just outside their penalty box. Riera remains a threat down the other end with his movement, but Ramos has the legs on the forward. Still goalless after 11 minutes, but both teams have had opportunities thus far.

Half-chance for Madrid as Ronaldo carries possession into the Osasuna box before finding Benzema, but his curling effort just drops high of the crossbar. The away side have possession down the other end with Riera moments later, but the Spaniard cannot find the run of Roberto Torres down the left.

An extended period of Madrid possession leads to a corner as Jese's cross is deflected behind by Damia. The resulting set piece is delivered towards Ronaldo, but Oier is on hand to clear with an impressive header. Play is stopped moments later with Torres crumbling following a powerful aerial challenge from Ronaldo.

PENALTY SHOUT! Big shout from Madrid as Jese tumbles inside the box under a challenge from Osasuna goalkeeper Asier Riesgo, but the referee books Jese for simulation. It did initially appear that he had pointed to the spot.

GOAL! Real Madrid 1-0 Osasuna (Benzema)

The home side take the lead with 19 minutes on the clock as Benzema heads Modric's free kick into the back of the net. Poor marking from Osasuna it must be said.

Another half-chance for the home side as Ronaldo stands over a free kick outside the box. The Portuguese does indeed try his luck, but fires his effort high and wide of the crossbar. Osasuna just need to be a little bit careful here with the home side finding their form. Another goal at this stage of proceedings could be very damaging.

Just a reminder that nothing will be decided this evening with the second leg to come in Pamplona next week. That said, it could be as good as over if Madrid pick up a comprehensive win tonight. Not too much for the away supporters to get excited about in the last couple of moments as Madrid dominate possession of the ball.

The home supporters are in good voice with 26 minutes on the clock as their side continue to utterly dominate this game of football. The referee has been more involved than he would have liked in the last couple of moments, however, with a series of late challenges. Not too many chances since Benzema headed the home side into the lead.

Half-chance for Madrid following an extended period of possession as Bale finds Illarramendi on the edge of the box, but his effort flashes wide of the post. Osasuna are really struggling to keep hold of the ball at the moment as the pressure continues. Little over 15 minutes of the first period remaining in the Spanish capital.

CHANCE! Opportunity for Osasuna from a free kick as Torres is felled by Arbeloa outside the box. The resulting set piece is met by Oier, but his header just drops wide of the post. Javi Garcia will have seen enough from his side to suggest that they can cause problems to Madrid.

CHANCE! Wonderful chance for Madrid to make it 2-0 as Jese drives into the box before appearing to put it on a plate for Ronaldo, but Arribas comes from nowhere to make a fine diving challenge. Chances at both ends as the first period enters its latter stages.

In fairness to Osasuna, they have responded impressively to falling behind. Madrid are finding it difficult to create space in and around their box, while they remain a threat on the counter. Madrid do gain a free kick outside their box moments later, but Ronaldo's effort is just wide of the post.

Not too much to report in terms of chances in the last couple of moments with Osasuna restricting the home side to few clear opportunities. The away side force a free kick outside the box moments later, but Torres's delivery is cleared by Pepe. Little over five minutes of the first period remaining at the Bernabeu.

Half-chance for Madrid as Bale finds some space inside the Osasuna box, but the Welshman's effort is blocked by Oier, before Ronaldo is ruled offside. Ronaldo attempts to combine on the edge of the area with Benzema moments later, but once more the danger is cleared. Bale tries his luck in the next attack, but his effort is high and wide of the crossbar.

CHANCE! Incredible chance for Osasuna to level as Torres finds Oier inside the box with a low cross, but the defender can only flash his effort wide of the post. Those opportunities do not come around too often at the Bernabeu.

Not too much to report in terms of chances in the latter stages of the first period with the referee forced to stop play due to a number of late challenges. It did appear that the floodgates would open after Benzema's header, but Osasuna have impressed since falling behind. Little over one minute of the first period remaining in Madrid.

HALF-TIME: Real Madrid 1-0 Osasuna

So there we have it. The referee brings the first period to an end with Madrid leading 1-0 courtesy of a header from Benzema after 19 minutes. They have not had it all their own way, however, with Osasuna contributing to an entertaining first half of football in Madrid.

STATISTICS: The home side have shaded the possession with 56%, while they have had nine attempts to Osasuna's three. That said, both sides have hit the target on just one occasion. There have also been a couple of yellow cards, but it has not been a particularly highly-charged match in terms of challenges.

BENCH WATCH: Madrid have a number of attacking options on their bench in the shape of Angel di Maria, Alvaro Morata and Isco. Meanwhile, Osasuna have the likes of Punal, Jose Garcia and Loties in reserve. In truth, Osasuna have not done a lot wrong thus far.

Here we go then. Both sets of players join us on the pitch for the second period. Just a reminder that nothing will be decided this evening with the second leg to come next week. You just get the feeling that Osasuna will need to ride their luck in this half. Right, the home side get the second 45 minutes of action underway.

No changes for either side at the interval, which is not much of a surprise at this stage of proceedings. No reason for either manager to be too unhappy with what they have seen thus far. Osasuna will expect on onslaught from the home side, but they must also cause Madrid problems.

Positive start to the second period from Osasuna as De las Cuevas breaks down the right before driving a low cross into the box, but Pepe is on hand to clear the danger. Madrid have a free kick down the other end moments later, but it comes to nothing when Marcelo loses possession. Madrid have not been at their best thus far that is for certain.

Half-chance for Madrid as Bale finds some space down the left before delivering a sensational cross towards Benzema, but the Frenchman is ruled offside. Although replays have shown that the striker was level with the final defender. End-to-end football as Osasuna continue to have their say in the Madrid half.

Half-chance for Ronaldo this time as the Portuguese rises inside the box, but he can only direct his header high of the crossbar. Marcelo delivers a deep cross from the left moments later, but Riesgo is on hand to collect. Little over 35 minutes of this Copa del Rey contest remaining. Just a reminder that the second leg will take place next week.

There is a really flat atmosphere inside the stadium at the moment as Madrid continue to struggle in the final third. Bale takes matters into his own hands moments later by driving a low cross into the box, but Oier is on hand to clear the danger, before the resulting corner is headed clear by Cejudo.

Osasuna make their first change of the match as Silva is replaced by 38-year-old club-captain Punal. You just get the feeling that Madrid will click into gear at some point in the remaining stages of this match, but Osasuna have defended well thus far.

CHANCE! Incredible chance for Ronaldo as Bale finds the Portuguese inside the box, but he fires his effort straight at Riesgo from close range.

GOAL! Real Madrid 2-0 Osasuna (Jese)

The home side have their second of the match on the hour as Jese turns home from close range following some horror defending from Osasuna. Oier and Cejudo were both guilty of losing possession in quick succession and Jese made no mistake from inside the box.

CHANCE! Another wonderful chance for Ronaldo as Modric finds the run of the forward inside the area, but somehow he turns wide of the post. Osasuna are in all sorts of bother here with 63 minutes on the clock.

Another opportunity for Ronaldo as the Portuguese rises inside the box before meeting a cross from Marcelo, but his header is high of the crossbar. He could have had three or four goals in the space of about 10 minutes. It is important that Osasuna remain in this tie with 25 minutes of the first leg remaining.

One-way traffic at the moment as the home side continue to force the issue in the final third. At 2-0, Osasuna would have a chance in the second leg, but it is difficult to imagine them recovering from 3-0 or possibly more. Little over 20 minutes of this contest remaining, with Madrid in complete control of the possession.

Osasuna make their second change of the match with 16-year-old Jose Garcia replacing De las Cuevas, who has struggled to influence proceedings this evening. The away side manage to force a cross into the Madrid box moments later, but Riera cannot connect at the far post and Madrid have a goal kick.

Another half-chance for Madrid as Jese collects a loose ball just inside the box, but his effort is sliced wide of the post. Bale wanted a penalty moments before after tumbling under pressure from Flano, but the referee was not interested. Jese has a period on the ground moments later with suspected cramp.

Jese cannot continue as the Spaniard is replaced by Isco for the final 15 minutes or so. Osasuna have a promising attack moments later with Riera finding Garcia, but Marcelo is across to clear the danger. You just get the feeling that we have not seen the last of the goals this evening.

CHANCE! Incredible chance for Madrid as Benzema finds Bale inside the box. The Welshman's effort appears to be heading for the bottom corner, but it strikes teammate Ronaldo before dropping wide of the post. Osasuna strike lucky with 15 minutes remaining.

Osasuna continue to force the issue as Cejudo finds some space outside the Madrid box, but his curling low cross is cleared by Ramos. The Madrid centre-back finds himself in the Osasuna area moments later after combining with Ronaldo, but Oier is on hand to clear at the vital moment. Little over 10 minutes of the second period remaining. Have we seen the last of the goals?

The away side are not finished as an attacking threat here as they continue to commit numbers in the final third, but it is leaving Madrid with all sorts of space down the other end. Ronaldo comes close to meeting a through pass from Bale, but the attacker is ruled offside. Moments later, Osasuna make their final change as Bertran replaces Cejudo.

Madrid make their second change of the match as Alvaro Morata, who has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in this transfer window, replaces Benzema, who receives a warm ovation from the home supporters. Another successful night for the French forward, who has overcome a difficult start to the season.

Not too much to report in terms of chances in the last couple of moments with Osasuna managing to quell the flow of pressure with a period of possession. They can be proud of their performance this evening that is for certain. Madrid gain a free kick moments later as Bertran fells Ronaldo, but the resulting set piece, which is taken by Modric, comes to nothing.

Half-chance for Madrid as an extended period of possession comes to an end when Pepe tries his luck from outside the box, but his effort was always moving high and wide of the crossbar. Little over three minutes of this Copa del Rey contest remaining. Just a reminder that the second leg will take place next week.

Osasuna manage to pin Madrid into their own box with a period of possession, but the opportunity to shoot is passed up by Oier. Madrid make their third and final change moments later as Brazilian midfielder Casemiro replaces Illarramendi for the final couple of minutes in Madrid.

Morata tries his luck from outside the box after a slick pass from Modric, but his curling effort is collected by Riesgo. The fourth official indicates that we will play an additional three minutes and we are indeed into the second of those.

FULL-TIME: Real Madrid 2-0 Osasuna

So there we have it. Madrid secure a two-goal lead ahead of the second leg next week. Thanks for joining Sports Mole for the action and be sure to join us tomorrow as Week 19 in La Liga begins. Until then!
