Marcelo eyeing another Champions League title

Real Madrid defender Marcelo insists that his team are capable of winning a 12th European Cup this season, but accepts that it will be "tough".

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has said that while 'it will be tough' for Los Blancos to win another Champions League title this season, the Spanish outfit are certainly capable of landing the crown.

Real Madrid have won the Champions League in two of the last three seasons, including in 2015-16 as they overcame capital rivals Atletico Madrid in the final once again.

The Spanish giants will begin this season's challenge with a group match against Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night, and Marcelo is confident that his team have the credentials to land a 12th European Cup.

"We've got to try and build on last season. It's is still early days with our objectives that we are trying to accomplish. It will be a tough season, just like last season. It is not easy to win the Champions League but we are on the right path," Marcelo told reporters.

"We're here, we're taking part so, yes, there is a chance [Madrid will win] like all teams who are taking part in the tournament. No team has won successive Champions League titles but our job is to try and win the Champions League."

Marcelo has made 67 Champions League appearances for Real Madrid.
