Joey Barton to remain at Rangers following conclusion of disciplinary procedure

Rangers announce that Joey Barton will return to full-team training when his disciplinary procedure concludes.

Rangers have announced that Joey Barton will remain at the club after serving a lengthy suspension.

The controversial midfielder, who joined the Scottish outfit on a free transfer from Burnley in the summer, has not played since the Gers' 5-1 defeat to Celtic on September 10.

In the wake of the heavy loss, Barton had a training-ground altercation with teammate Andy Halliday, which resulted in the 34-year-old being suspended for an initial seven days.

The ban was extended by three weeks after Barton refused to apologise and gave a radio interview without the club's permission.

Questions were raised over the midfielder's future at the Scottish Premiership club, but it has now been confirmed that he will return to training in due course.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Joey Barton has been told he will return to full-time training following the conclusion of a disciplinary procedure.

"The Auchenhowie management team will inform the player of appropriate training arrangements to which he must adhere for as long as he remains a Rangers player. Neither the club nor the player will comment further."

Barton is believed to be earning £20,000 a week.
