Nasser Al-Khelaifi: 'Blaise Matuidi to extend Paris Saint-Germain deal'

France midfielder Blaise Matuidi will sign a new contract at Paris Saint-Germain after rejecting a move away, confirms the club's president.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has 'confirmed' that Blaise Matuidi will sign a new long-term contract with the French champions, ending speculation surrounding the midfielder's future.

Matuidi has been strongly linked with a move to Juventus in recent weeks as the Italians seek a replacement for Paul Pogba, who returned to Manchester United for a world-record fee this summer.

It had been claimed that the France international had agreed a deal with the Italian champions earlier this week, but according to Al-Khelaifi, Matuidi has now decided to remain in Paris and will pen a contract extension.

"I can confirm that he will not leave and that we will extend his contract," Al-Khelaifi told Le Parisien. "I always wished that he would stay and he also has always wanted to stay. He is an exemplary player who has always given everything for PSG. He has a huge heart on the field and off it. He is a great representative of the club."

Matuidi, who was part of the France team that reached the final of Euro 2016, joined PSG from Saint-Etienne in 2011.
