Krul makes Brighton switch permanent

Tim Krul's loan switch from Newcastle United to Brighton & Hove Albion has been made a permanent one, the two clubs have announced today.

The news marks the end of the Dutchman's 12-year association with the Magpies, during which time he featured 157 times for the club in the Premier League.

Krul's chances became limited during the club's final season in the top flight, however, and following their relegation to the Championship last year he spent time on loan in his homeland with AZ and Ajax.

The 29-year-old was in the final 12 months of his contract as he sealed a loan switch to the Seagulls on deadline day, a move that reunited him with ex-Newcastle boss Chris Hughton.

Krul has signed with Hughton's side on terms that will still expire at the end of the season, although crucially, the deal means that Brighton will now be able to sign another Premier League player on loan in January.
