Wijnaldum too "devastated" to consider future

Georginio Wijnaldum has claimed that he needs to get over the "devastation" of relegation before considering his future.

Rafael Benitez's side dropped from the Premier League to the Championship in the final week of the season after amassing 37 points, two short of safety.

Wijnaldum, who scored 11 league goals in the campaign, has been linked with summer moves to West Ham United and Roma, but the Dutchman has not yet begun thinking about a possible transfer.

"It's something I can't think about," The Chronicle quotes Wijnaldum as saying. "All I can say is I'm devastated that we are out of the Premier League. It's hurt me a lot. First that feeling must go away and then I will see how I feel. It was devastating.

"Unfortunately my 11 goals did not help the club stay in the Premier League so I am upset about it. I don't know how long it will take to get over. I will take my time to get over it. Time will tell."

The midfielder joined the Magpies from PSV Eindhoven for £14.5m last summer.
