Rodgers quiet on Depay rumours

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has refused to confirm or deny speculation that the club are looking to sign Memphis Depay.

The 20-year-old has been linked with the Anfield outfit and Manchester United in previous weeks, with the player himself dismissing reports that a move was near to completion.

However, Rodgers did little to quell rumours of the Netherlands international joining the Reds after the current campaign.

"I can't confirm either way - you know me, in terms of speculation of players," he is quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying. "The kid is a very talented player, of course. But I wouldn't like to confirm either way.

"It's clear we need the goal threat for next year. There's going to be a whole raft of players that I'm sure will be looked at, then will be up to the club if they're affordable and if they're available.

"We've identified that [a striker] as a priority. We'll have to see availability first, and then take it from there."

Rodgers has also suggested that Daniel Sturridge's role as Liverpool's first-choice striker could be in doubt due to the player's fitness problems.
